Christmas Decor (Through a New Lens)

I got a new camera lens for Christmas this year. Yes, I know that it's only December 2nd. But if you know me, you probably know that I'm not much for surprises. And since I knew I wanted this lens, I went ahead and ordered it for myself early (making Christmas easy on Dale!). What better time to have it in tow than over the holidays when I'm surrounded by wonderful picture subjects (i.e., my kids and their adorable cousins)?

The lens came in yesterday, so I spent a little time this evening playing. I took some pictures of a few of our Christmas decorations so I could get my blog page in the holiday spirit. The new lens is a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D (I have a Nikon D50). Its purpose (or at least the reason why I got it!) is to create the fun blurry backgrounds behind the subject of the picture. I don't claim to know how it works - something about having a very open lens? All I know is that one of my favorite bloggers uses it, swears by it, and takes amazing pictures. So I'm in!

Here are some shots of a few of our decorations (we have 6 huge bins, so this is only a small glimpse). And, for kicks, I'm throwing in a few of the girls tonight, too, since I know some (errrr, one) of my readers would be upset without a couple of kid pics.

We need to get her some matching shoes for this fairy gown...

Just wait until these ornaments are on the TREE, Mommy. Can you say, "d-e-s-t-r-u-c-t-i-o-n"?

Dear blogger,
I like and appreciate your choice of subjects. Leave photographing boring still objects to the professionals, you have adorable subjects running around your home....they are a perfect choice.

Hmmm, one of your favorite bloggers huh? Since I am still trying to upgrade from a point/shoot...I know you weren't talking about me. Ok, yes, I know exactly who you are talking about and she is also the reason I am bent on upgrading. I guess I am a step behind because I just want a camera...maybe I will catch up to you by snagging the lens someday too!

I have the same lens. I love it! Got the info from Mckmama, I'm guessing you did too. Have fun with it, my next thing is to get lightroom, it's her editing software. You can download it from free off the internet and try it for 30 days. It is pretty cool!
