Bryce's First Birthday Celebration

On Bryce's birthday, we invited a few friends over for a low-key cookout to celebrate.  Though it had been a long Monday at school for him, B managed to stay happy long enough to eat his hot dog and a few tater tots.  But, by cake-eating time, he was pretty worn out and not interested in trying something new, even though it was yummy chocolate cake.

So, while I didn't get the cake-all-over-the-face 1st Birthday pictures that every mom hopes for, we still had a wonderful night.  Thanks for celebrating with us, Brunners and McCullochs!

Easter Egg Hunts, 2012

We traveled to visit Dale's mom over Easter weekend, so the girls were able to score 2 Easter day egg hunts.  It was a bit chilly early in the morning, and of course I did not pack warm clothes, so the girls ended up hunting in shorts and their flannel pj shirts.  New fashion trend, don't ya think?!?

Bryce was a bit high-maintenance during both the hunt at Grandma's and the one that followed with Emerson when we got back home.  As a result, Dale had to be both photographer and Daddy-who-is-super-excited-to-see-what-the-girls-found for both hunts.  Which translated to just a few pictures really worthy of sharing.  But he was able to capture the girls' excitement, which is all that matters!

Ivie's 6th Birthday Celebrations

This year, in lieu of a "typical" birthday party (the kind where you pay a lot of money to take the child and his/her 10-15 friends to a set location for a couple hours of fun), Ivie decided that she wanted to have a sleepover.  Dale and I were all for this transition, given that such a celebration would undoubtedly be less expensive than the alternative!

So, starting at age 6 in the Herman house, a new tradition of birthday sleepovers begins...

When we sat down to work on Iv's guest list, we quickly realized a problem.  Ivie still has great friends from her time at day care, but she also has great NEW friends from Kindergarten!  So we ultimately decided that she would have an "old friends" sleepover, and then a "new friends" sort-of-sleepover (everything but the drama associated with actually sleeping at a strange house!).

The good news about these sorts of gatherings is that you pretty much just have to provide food, a movie, and 1 or 2 little crafts for the kids to do.  Other than that, you can just turn them loose in the house for an extended play date!

The bad news?  The mess to clean up on the back end of said "turn-loose-dom", the occasional child who gets homesick and you have to place the late-night call to the mom, and the lack of photo opportunities.

I did manage to take a few pictures of the girls all together on these two great evenings.  While there were a few bumps in the road, as you can imagine any time you get a group of girls together, the parties were both deemed a great success.  Iv's already looking forward to her next birthday sleepover!

Macie's School Easter Egg Hunt

Macie's school had their yearly Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday, April 5th.  Dale was working from home that day, so he was able to go watch the hunt (and document it with photos for me!).

Since I wasn't there, I don't have much to share in the form of a written report.  But, as you'll be able to tell from the pictures, Macie had a wonderful time!

Ivie's Art Gallery

At the end of March, Ivie and her classmates hosted an Art Gallery for their parents to celebrate the end of their 2-week Art unit.  I'm pretty sure she now knows more about famous artists than I do.  And I'm absolutely certain she's more artistic than either her mother OR father...

Here are some pictures from the event!

Because You Don't See Enough of Him Already...

I know that this blog really lacks for Bryce sightings.  Especially lately, when I've just had SO MUCH TIME to keep this thing updated...  Yeah, right.  Anyway, because he's my baby and I've just happened to have the Flip around for some especially cute moments, here are a couple of videos of Buggy.

By the way, the girls wanted me to make sure you all know that they are alive and well.  And that they know their mommy still loves them, even though she doesn't blog about them any more.  (I tell them they've "graduated" to Facebook mentions only...).
